Thomas Aubrey (1740-1814) was a Lieutenant in the 4th Foot from 1766 to 1771 and wears the uniform here of the 4th ranked Lieutenant. He gained his company command as Captain in the 47th in April of ‘71. A younger son of Sir Thomas Aubrey of Llantrithyd, Glamorgan, Aubrey’s company along with Capt Thomas Gambles’ company were to survive the disaster at Saratoga, having been detached to garrison Diamond Island. Aubrey was made Major in June 1782, and while in Canada he became the overall commander of the 47th detachments. He was later a Member of Parliament for Wallingford between 1784 and 1790.
